Hola, soy Isabella Pino, miembro de ClimateCorps. Quiero compartir un poco sobre mi experiencia en Eastie Farm, mi visión de formar parte de ClimateCorps en el futuro y cómo veo el mundo en su conjunto. Es una visión positiva, algo maravilloso, porque creo en los cambios que puedo generar en mi vida y en mi comunidad. Para mí, es fundamental hacer de nuestro mundo un lugar mejor.
Mi visión más importante es que todos podamos estar unidos. Ser parte de ClimateCorps ha sido algo increíble. Siento que todo lo que he aprendido en este programa y lo que las personas que me rodean me enseñan me ayudará mucho en mi futuro. He tenido la oportunidad de contribuir a mi comunidad y seguiré haciéndolo. Este programa me ha ayudado a crecer como persona, y mi objetivo es continuar en él para seguir ayudando al medio ambiente y a mi comunidad.
Ahora hablemos sobre los empleos verdes. Los llamamos así porque son puestos de trabajo que reducen el impacto ambiental, vinculando el crecimiento económico con el desarrollo de una sociedad inclusiva y justa. Esto garantiza que todos tengan acceso a recursos básicos para el bienestar. Además, estos empleos comparten los principios de la economía circular, promoviendo el uso de energías renovables y la reducción de emisiones contaminantes. Un ejemplo de estos trabajos es el de “Investigador en Ciencias Ambientales”.
Quiero compartir algunas cosas que he aprendido en ClimateCorps y que me han inspirado a cambiar aspectos de mi vida, así como los de mi comunidad. He adquirido conocimientos valiosos que me han ayudado enormemente. Lo más importante ha sido la comunicación y el respeto por las personas que me rodean. Más allá de eso, he aprendido sobre el cuidado de los jardines. En Eastie Farm tenemos siete jardines, y he tenido la oportunidad de conocer varios de ellos y aprender a cuidarlos. He aprendido cuándo y cómo regar las plantas, la manera correcta de cosechar y cómo hacer un buen uso de los recursos. Todo esto me ha inspirado a cambiar gran parte de mi vida, abriéndome la mente sobre la importancia del cuidado del medio ambiente y los espacios que nos rodean. Gracias a ello, ahora cuido mejor mis plantas en casa y he podido ayudar a personas fuera del país enseñándoles cómo cuidar sus plantas.
Me gustaría compartir algunos de los problemas que hemos enfrentado en Eastie Farm y los aprendizajes que he obtenido como miembro del programa. En mi comunidad, uno de los principales problemas ha sido la falta de respeto por los espacios públicos. Trabajamos en espacios abiertos, donde hay muchas personas, y a veces debemos lidiar con quienes no son conscientes de las consecuencias de tirar basura en las calles o en nuestros jardines. Es frustrante ver que, a pesar de nuestros esfuerzos por mantener los espacios limpios, muchas personas no lo valoran. Sin embargo, también hay quienes sí son conscientes y se ofrecen como voluntarios para ayudar en la limpieza.
Para mí, el trabajo que realizo en ClimateCorps beneficia a mi comunidad de una manera significativa y segura. Este programa cumple muchas funciones, y cada día me esfuerzo por mejorar y ayudar en lo que haga falta. Mi labor tiene un impacto positivo, ya que participo en la recolección de basura en espacios abiertos y en la distribución de alimentos a quienes más lo necesitan.
El verano pasado estuvo lleno de emociones, ya que fue la primera vez que visité algunas de las islas de Boston. Fue aún más emocionante aprender sobre el medio ambiente y los diferentes tipos de energía. En otoño, tuve la oportunidad de seguir en el programa, lo que me hizo sentir muy feliz, ya que sentía que todo me estaba saliendo bien y que era capaz de lograr mis objetivos. Me eligieron para continuar trabajando algunas semanas más, y en 2024 tuve una oportunidad aún mayor: convertirme en líder de uno de los grupos, junto con otro líder, Yared. Esta experiencia me ha brindado muchos aprendizajes tanto en el ámbito laboral como en lo personal.
Tuve la oportunidad de conocer personas increíbles y ver en cada una de ellas algo especial. Para mí, este ha sido mi mejor verano en Eastie Farm. He compartido mucho con mis compañeros y adquirido muchos conocimientos. Espero poder seguir formando parte de este programa, ya que me ha brindado innumerables oportunidades. Estoy muy agradecida con todas las personas de Eastie Farm.
Hello, I am Isabella Pino, a member of ClimateCorps. I want to share a bit about my experience at Eastie Farm, my vision for being part of ClimateCorps in the future, and how I see the world as a whole. It is a positive vision, something wonderful, because I believe in the changes I can create in my life and in my community. For me, it is essential to make our world a better place.
My most important vision is for all of us to be united. Being part of ClimateCorps has been an incredible experience. I feel that everything I have learned in this program, along with what the people around me have taught me, will help me a lot in my future. I have had the opportunity to contribute to my community, and I will continue to do so. This program has helped me grow as a person, and my goal is to continue in it so I can keep helping both the environment and my community.
Now, let’s talk about green jobs. We call them that because they are jobs that reduce environmental impact, linking economic growth with the development of an inclusive and fair society. This ensures that everyone has access to basic resources for well-being. Additionally, these jobs align with the principles of the circular economy, promoting the use of renewable energy and reducing polluting emissions. One example of a green job is an “Environmental Science Researcher.”
I would like to share some things I have learned in ClimateCorps that have inspired me to change aspects of my life, as well as those of my community. I have gained valuable knowledge that has helped me tremendously. The most important lesson has been communication and respect for the people around me. Beyond that, I have learned about gardening and plant care. At Eastie Farm, we have seven gardens, and I have had the opportunity to visit and care for several of them. I have learned when and how to water plants properly, the correct way to harvest, and how to make good use of these resources. All of this has inspired me to change a big part of my life, giving me a broader perspective on the importance of caring for the environment and the spaces around us. Thanks to this, I now take better care of my plants at home and have even helped people in other countries by teaching them how to care for their plants.
I would also like to share some of the challenges we have faced at Eastie Farm and the lessons I have learned as a program member. In my community, one of the biggest challenges has been the lack of respect for public spaces. We work in open spaces where many people come and go, and sometimes we have to deal with individuals who are not aware of the consequences of littering in the streets or in our gardens. It is frustrating to see that, despite our efforts to keep these spaces clean, many people do not appreciate it. However, there are also those who are conscious of the impact of waste and even volunteer to help with cleaning.
For me, the work I do at ClimateCorps benefits my community in a meaningful and secure way. This program serves many purposes, and every day, I strive to improve and help where it is needed. My work has a positive impact, as I participate in cleaning up open spaces and distributing food to those who need it most.
Last summer was filled with emotions, as it was my first time visiting some of Boston’s islands. It became even more exciting when I started learning about the environment and different types of energy. In the fall, I had the chance to continue in the program, which made me very happy because I finally felt that things were going well for me and that I was capable of achieving my goals. I was chosen to continue working for a few more weeks, and in 2024, I had an even greater opportunity: becoming a leader of one of the program’s groups alongside another leader, Yared. This experience has taught me so much, both in my professional and personal life.
I had the opportunity to meet incredible people and see something special in each of them. For me, this has been my best summer at Eastie Farm. I have shared more with my peers and gained many valuable lessons. I hope to continue being part of this program because it has provided me with countless opportunities. I am very grateful to everyone at Eastie Farm.
