Our Living Lands program cares for our Earth through land stewardship and regenerative local farming. Eastie Farm uses raised beds, shipping container farms, and our greenhouse to grow fresh, nutritious produce right here in the heart of East Boston. Additionally, the Living Lands program takes intentional steps to integrate climate solutions in every aspect of their work, including mitigating stormwater runoff, operating a zero-emissions geothermal greenhouse, and urban composting initiatives.
Farming
Farming in East Boston may look different than in other parts of Massachusetts, but our Living Lands team proves that it’s possible everyday! Our goal is to demonstrate the positive climate impact of local farming and food consumption while building partnerships with Massachusetts farms using regenerative methods, prioritizing farms owned by BIPOC, minority, and socially disadvantaged community members.
Our two shipping container farms allow us to grow a diverse range of foods. Our mushroom farm cultivates fresh mushrooms for delicious plant protein, while our hydroponic farm makes growing leafy greens and vegetables possible year-round, even in the infamous Boston winters! In addition, Eastie Farm built the first geothermal greenhouse in all of New England. Our greenhouse is heated and cooled with the energy from the Earth, helping us grow year-round without the substantial fossil fuel usage typically associated with energy intensive growing.
The Living Lands team supports raised beds at all three of our sites, growing dozens of pounds of produce each year to be enjoyed by our community members. From bok choy to radishes to garlic, our raised beds grow abundantly! Each week during the growing season, we host volunteer work parties to help harvest and maintain our sites. We’d love to have you join us!

Site Stewardship
The Living Lands team cares for Eastie Farm’s three main sites throughout East Boston, making sure our spaces are growing sustainably and remaining clean and safe for our community. If you’ve visited us and noticed thriving plants, watered raised beds, and wide branching trees, that is all thanks to our Living Lands program!

Seedling Sale
Each year, the Living Lands team grows hundreds of seedlings in our greenhouse to support local gardening in East Boston, offering preorders and on-site sales in the spring. Whether you want to grow herbs, fruiting plants, or flowers, our Seedling Sale provides them all!

Past Events
Tierra Bella (“Beautiful Earth”)
To welcome the spring, we hold this annual event right after Boston Shines, a citywide clean-up effort. To help community members start their own gardens, we provide not just seedlings but also soil, a pot, and natural fertilizers. Our streets become clean and our greens begin growing — what better way to start off the warm weather here in Eastie?
