Spring has sprung!

Now that Spring is here, Saturday work parties have begun! Neighbors in our community are finally back in the garden and everyone is welcome to join from 10 AM to 2 PM on Saturdays.

We have been cleaning up after the winter – removing litter, clearing out old vegetation, putting up signs, and sorting out the mess that winter left behind. Soon we will plant cool weather crops such as radishes, beets, and various greens, and the garlic we planted last autumn can be seen sprouting through the soil.

This year, we are working on constructing a greenhouse that will extend our gardening season a bit longer into the colder months. This will allow us to start our own seedlings.

We’ve also created a brand new sign for Eastie Farm! Painted by hand on canvas, the big and colorful sign is displayed on the entrance gates. The second sign thanks the East Boston community and the City of Boston for awarding us a grant to grow our farm!

Although still chilly, we are having a good time with community members!
