Volunteers Ryan and Suzen help back CSA bags every week
Two months ago, Ryan and Suzen Holohan stepped foot in Eastie Farm’s greenhouse for the first time. Long-time East Boston residents and parents of 2 boys, Ryan and Suzen wanted to find a place where they could help out the community. “We think it’s important to support local farms and help people in need attain food for their families,” Suzen says.

Every week since, Ryan and Suzen help the food team pack CSA bags for over 100 weekly customers. They help us receive the food delivery, package any loose vegetables in small bags, and fill the bags with fresh produce. One day when their kids were off of school, they brought Bo and Jack along, too! “We support Eastie Farm for their effort to continue helping people locally,” Suzen says. “It is a lot of work to keep the program running successfully.”
It was such a pleasure working with the Holohan’s every Wednesday. We love blasting music and talking about concert venues in Boston. Ryan used to be in a rock band, so he knows all the good spots. We also have fun coming up with the most efficient strategy to pack the bags. After a conversation about Seattle, Ryan discovered the fish throwing method for our packaged items (no bags of spinach were harmed in the process).

Lunch made by Ryan and Suzen featuring many of our CSA items
We were all disappointed when the last day of our CSA distribution came around on November 15th. To celebrate the successful season, Ryan and Suzen hosted Eastie Farm staff at their home in East Boston to enjoy a meal and tour their home garden. They cooked up many of our CSA items including ginger, onions, carrots, and mushrooms. We are incredibly grateful for Ryan and Suzen’s dedication to volunteering and supporting Eastie Farm.
